When Lars Von Trier declared that he plans to shoot a five-hour long porn movie based on the story of catholic and orthodox split, not many took that seriously despite his other comments about him sympathizing Nazi regime have topped tabloids for some time.
NYMPH()MANIAC) movie with "Forget About Love" tagline will soon get released in Europe and the five-and-a-half-hour long uncut version is scheduled to be at the 64th Berlin Film Festival. The second volume of a 145 minute movie expected for a general public release has been already censored in Romania getting a IM 18 XXX rating.
Charlotte Gainsbourg's personage is a self-diagnosed nymphomaniac Joe in her fifties. The entire movie flashbacks her wild and erotic life as she tells it to a complete stranger, Stellan Skarsgård, who picked her beaten-up on a street and brought to his home. Probably, those who like Lars Von Trier as well as Shame movie by Steve McQueen (which, btw has a great soundtrack list including J.S. Bach performed by Glenn Gould and the music of the 80s of Tom Tom Club and Blondie as well as the most heartfelt performance of Frank Sinatra's New York New York song by Carey Mulligan) will watch the movie not because of those guilty pleasure erotic scenes Nymphomaniac is full of due to which internet community has started debates of how appropriate is the movie. I am afraid, Italy which is famous for releasing movies half-a-year after its European premiere due to tedious dubbing will be one of the last countries where the movie will be shown, probably, sometime in May if not in summer. While waiting for its release I have already gone through the whole content of the official website and picked up two decent videos to share. I feel it is not an easy film, it is utterly unapologetic and uncompromising, despite dedicated to physical pleasure it is far to be called pleasant leaving oneself with some emotional discomfort during and after watching it.
